Final Post

Yes, I do feel that I have achieved what I wanted to achieve in a way because I am writing better papers. I final recognize my mistakes on my own. Yes, I would like to add some of my new goals, now that I am more familiar with college level writing, like now I realize that I am not good at writing thesis statements. Now my next goal is to write better thesis statements or at least an okay thesis statement. I will like to continue all of my strengths  as I said in my last post and I will like to strengthen all my weaknesses as I said in my last post. I would also like to stop being a procrastinator because it is not cute and it will never help me in my future. All of my weaknesses that I know I still need to work on is not being able to come up with a thesis statement and writing about other people work and thinking critically about it like articles, ads, etc.

How I will make my essay better?

My essay contains two things that I am strong at and two things that I am very weak at when it comes to writing an essay. I am weak at writing good thesis statements. When it comes to thesis statements I need a plethora of help and if I do not get help on it I would not write it. I would rather get a bad grade on it then make myself sound stupid by coming up with one on my own. The reason why I think I am weak at writing thesis statements is because I never grasped the whole thing about an okay thesis statement. I know that it is good to have one because it helps you focus your paper. It gives your readers a purpose for reading your paper. It also helps you build up other ideas to connect with that main idea. I know all of this stuff, but yet I still cannot come up with a great thesis statement.
Also, I am weak at writing about other people work and thinking critically about them like articles, ads, etc. The reason being, I cannot really relate to what they are trying to tell their readers or viewers. I really cannot think that critically about what they are trying to state. I can say that I get half of it, but it is still more of what they are trying to state and I feel like I cannot get it. I have a vivid picture in my mind, but when I try to write it down on paper it sounds slow. I just stop at what sounds good and the rest I toss it to the side and call it a day.
On the other hand, I believe that I am strong at writing about my own ideas and experiences, free styling if you will. The reason why I believe that is because when it comes to free styling or giving me a topic that I can relate to I can just go on and on about it or until I feel like the paper is completed. I can fully write about it without any care in the world. For example, my narrative paper and my argument paper I did fairly well on them because they were my own ideas, my own reasons for picking them, and they were things that I had experienced.
Furthermore, I am strong at working well with others; well certain people. The peer review played a major role with that. At first I did not like talking to other people about my paper because I thought that they was going to think that my papers are stupid which means that they would think that I am stupid. When I think about it now my papers were more successful because of the peer review. The better peer review was the better my paper became. My first and last papers was fairly well off because I took full advantage of the peer review and I actually had some people to criticize my paper the way a professor or teacher would. On the other hand, my second and third papers were unsuccessful because I showed up to class late and did not take full advantage of the peer review. It also went terrible because the groups that I was in were not really focused. They were getting mostly all of their ideas form me. They were not participating or contributing, so I can at least get an idea or two from them.

Argument Essay

When writing a successful argument there are 3 specific details that it should contain. Which they are an arguable thesis, an objective to the argument, and for you to reply to the objective argument. the reason being, how can you argue with an essay if you cannot argue against. It would not be possible to argue against it. Having an objective to the argument is very important to because in order to get the your reader to agree with what you are arguing against you have to make sure you thought about the objective of your argument. If not you will lose your reader because they will think that you do not know what you are talking about and just stop reading the essay all at once. Also, replying to the objective is important too because it does the job of showing your reader that you know what you are talking about and you are on top of your game to get them to agree with you. I use all of this information in my writing for my own argument because it is important and it will help my argument be successful.

Is it better to stay at home and attented college or dorm at college?

As far as getting to actually know the college I believe that it is better to go off to college than to stay at home. At home you have so many responsibilities and when you go off to college all of those responsibilities goes away and all you have to do is take care of yourself. If you stay at home and attend school you will have to see the same old people and feel like your are in high school except it is more advanced. Some people my think it is better to stay at home because it cost to much to go off to school, but I believe that is money well spent. I mean the government is going to spend it anyways so why not let them spend it on you?

Errors

I found three different types of errors in my papers, which is comma splices, fragment sentences, and misspelling words. The reason why I have a plethora of comma splices is because I really do not know when to stop a sentence. I want to put a plethora of information in, but at the same time I try to make it short and I end up putting a plethora of commas in a sentence. The same thing goes for my reason of having fragment sentences. I do not know how to fix those so I just leave them they way they are and hope that my tutor or my peers fix them. my reason for having misspelled words is because I am lazy and do not feel like going over my work so I just turn it in not realizing that some of the words I could have fixed I just did not spend enough time on it being very lazy.

BLOG #10

The peer review that we do in class is effective to me because it gives me a chance to see other people papers to see how they are getting the assignment. It gives me away to see someone else's view point on it other than a teacher or professor. It also helps me to get to know my peers a little bit better because it makes us interact with each other.

My strengths as a peer reviewer is that I actually give them feedback and ways I believe they can relate their stories to real life instead of just thinking that it is for a grade, it makes the paper more interesting. My weaknesses are that some of the time I come to class late so I really do not have enough time to give them my actual opinion.

I find it more helpful to do peer review for earlier stages of the writing process because it helps you get started with the paper and motivates you to actual do it and turn it in on time. Larger groups are more helpful to me because you get more opinions and ways that you can improve your paper. I do feel that I have an appropriate amount of time for peer reviews sometimes when I enter class on time.

Free style

Out of the three assignments that we have worked on so far, I beilieved that my first paper was the best. I felt more confident about that paper because it is more personal it was not based off an article or ad. I felt like I was bascially talking to a friend when I was writing that paper. I did not have to think criticlly and I really did not have to worry about if my paper did not sound like I knew what I was talking about. I guess in a way it was my way of getting my feelings out. Like sometimes I would be afraid to speak because I thought I spoke ghetto, so that was my way of getting things out of the way I felt about people talking about me not being able to speak properly. On the other hand, my second paper was the most difficult because I had to think of what a motionless ad meant to me. I know I should have picked a better one to talk about, but that ad really stuck out to me and I thought I could have did a better job, but I did not and I really feel terrible. to me I think a paper is successful if it is very long, longer than what your professor expects you to do. If the paper is not long to me I feel that you do not know what you were talking about and in that case I felt like that, thats reason why I felt like I gave up at the end.

Comparison

The difference between my paper and the ad is I stated how wrong it is to buy hand guns in South Africa, whereas they joked about it to grab people's attention. I firmly believe that it is a time to joke and it is a time not to joke. I do not believe that they had to joke about purchasing hand guns in South Africa; they could have just been up front with it and showed how dangerous this actually is to purchase guns online. Also how dangerous it is if a young tries to purchase it, but they would not care as long as their product is being sold.

Don’t Presume to Know a Pig’s Mind

In a way this article was interesting to me. I do believe I would have an easier time writing about this article because I kind of care about pigs. The reason why is because I want to know what is going on with them. I mean I eat them daily.  Actually, I chose the last one because it was the shortest out of them all. I am just being blunt here; I do not want to say "yeah this article actually grabbed my attention when I first saw it because it did not. But it did grab my attention because it is something that I eat, so why not learn more about what the scientist are doing to them. I mean you are what you eat, whatever they are doing to them they are basically doing the same to you because you by that kind of meat at your food market or where ever, you cook it up and you eat it; simple as that.

blog #7

Compared to my first blog in a way I do believe that I am progressing. At first I did not know what to say or do, but now I have so much to say that I have to check myself. On the other hand, I do not think that I am progressing because I am starting to get lazy. For example, some of my blogs are being turned in late. The only thing that I believe is helping me out as a writer is the peer reviews. They really do a great job critiquing my paper, to me. I would not change anything in this class, because I am learning so much in this class. My learning process has changed, to me. Compared to the beginning of the class I was like more to myself did not want anyone touching or reading my paper, becuase I was afriad of what they would think of my paper. Now I do not care I want them to read my paper so they can tell me what I went wrong. Yes, I do beileve my writing improved, because now I am more into details and I understand where I always go wrong with my writing.

My Ad Please!!!!!!!!

Gun-free South Africa Ad

                Gun-free South Africa Advertisement

It is a lot easier to get a gun in South Africa than at any place. They are showing a picture of a young man buying a gun out of a vending machine, like it is candy or something. The audience is anyone with common sense to know that this is an outrage. This is a genre of violence how can you have so many gun in a vending machine? If you look carefully it states that "your donation will go to the Gun Control Alliance, for a gun-free South Africa". Basically if you destroy your country with guns it is ok because you are helping South Africa Gun Control Alliance. This is not what I would expect from anyone. I am pretty sure that the audience for this ad would not had expected this either. This is like giving a hand gun to baby. I believe the author of this ad chose gun violence as the tone, so people around the world can be aware of how easy it is to get a hand gun in South Africa, so they can help control it.

I want you to describe all of the following:

My final paper does not look that much different from my rough draft. I just fixed a few errors. I did not make major improvements on my final paper, because I did not feel like I needed to. I have more that enough details and my paper is pretty long, well at least it fits the requirements. Yes, I tend to be overly wordy and have a plethora of run-on sentences. I edit my paper beause of my peer review. They saw my errors and corrected them. I think my strongest aspect of my paper is the details. I feel like I really get carry away when it comes to details, because I would like to think that I am a detail person. My weakest aspect of my paper is probably the run-on sentences and/or comma splices.

#3

The difference between an A paper and a C paper is the transitions, details, and the amount of errors.

An A paper would roll off the tongue smoothly and tell the story by getting to the point. It would grab the reader's attention and make them want to read more. It would be so full of details that the reader would not want to put the paper down and think that it is a true story about someones life. It would not have a plethora of errors, like errors that you can catch just by reading the paper over again. An A paper is so good that your professor would want to put it up for display and tell everyone about it. An A paper would make the writer happy and proud of it because they were the person that wrote it.

On the other hand a C paper would be okay. It would be an average paper. It would be a paper that could have been great only if they put more effort into it. A C paper would be the type of paper that you can catch a plethora of errors, well not to many errors because then it would not be an C paper. A C paper would be kind of interesting, but boring at the same time. It is a type of paper that would gain and lose the readers interest. A C paper is just a so so paper.

Essay

I believe my best literacy narrative paper will be kind of similar to Malcolm X, Tanya B. and/or Anne Lamott. The reason why I believe I should pick their stories to write my first essay about is because I can really relate to them especially Malcolm X.

I know how it feels to have a simple vocabulary and not being able to have descent conversations with certain people about certain things. I have this friend that knows mostly everything about every subject that you can think of. He is always correcting how I speak. He is always making me feel like I am mentally challenged. I always feel like I have to speak very carefully when I am around him and after every sentence that I speak I look at him to see if that sentence was grammatically in correct. I would not say that I am as determined as Malcolm X, but I was kind of determined which I might write about in my essay if I decide to pick this one to write about.

I felt like Tanya B. when she said that they are always stereotyping mexican thats why I believe that she might influence me to write an essay about stereo types of African Americans speech "ebonics". A pethora of people always stereo type African Americans by the way they speak. They might say "they speak ebonics, slang, ghetto, or my favorite BlACK." What is speaking black? I never knew that black as it's own language. I always wanted to say away from those stereo types, so I tried to stay in my books in come up other words that I can use then simple words. in other words I just always tried to inhence my vocabulary.

Also secrectly I always had a little interest for creating a dramatic story. I can always take a medium boring day and make it fun. When my grammar school teacher assigned my class to write a story about our lives and make sure it is at least 1 1/2 pages long, somehow when I get into my story I always make it 3-4 pages long. My teacher always told me that she loves my stories because I really go into details and it seems like I really enjoy writing, which at that time I really did enjoy writing. It always fancinated me how you can put a spin on your own stories and make the ending come out to be similar to fairytales or similar to horror stories.

English 101-7: My blog #1

Hello, my name is Connie S. Conner. The reason why I signed up for Ms. Spencer's class was because it was an required class, I also need help with writing better papers. I believe that if I write better papers then I can speak better. Around my community it is kind of known for people to speak poorly a.k.a. slang. I do not know why I guess they think that it is cool but I do not think that it is cool. what happens if you need a job and you have a job interview, but you do not know how to speak properly because you are so use to speaking "slangish"? (slang and English) I do not want to be one of those people that do not know how to speak properly. I want to sound intelligent when I need to sound intelligent.
